My name is Claire Anastas. I am a Palestinian Christian, and I have lived all my life in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. My family including my husband, mother, and children live in one of the apartments in a house on what was once a major road. My brother-in-law and his family live in another apartment in the same building. In all, there are five adults and nine children living in our building. For many years I operated a thriving gift shop on the ground floor.
In 2002 construction began on the Separation Wall which now closes the road to traffic and to tourists who might want to buy souvenirs from the Holy Land at my shop. My business died, and so did income for our family. Click here to read the complete story.
